Bela The Dog Dies From Cancer

Bela

I have previously discussed Bela, the German shepherd whose deceased owner stipulated in her last will and testament that her dog be euthanized.

After a viral Twitter campaign to keep the dog alive, the Utah based Best Friends Animal Society sanctuary took Bela in.  However, Bela was euthanized Sunday in the animal shelter due to cancer.  “Our medical director diagnosed Bela with a very fast-growing cancer and there was very little likelihood he would have lasted more than a very stressful day or so.  Reluctantly, Bela’s caregiving team made the decision that euthanasia was the right option.”

Rather than being buried at the animal sanctuary in Utah, Bela’s former owner is getting her wish.  “We are cremating Bela and sending his ashes to Indiana so he can be buried with his owner, who passed away in November.”  The Best Friends staff loved Bela dearly, and losing him was extremely difficult.  She will not be forgotten.
