The late New York billionaire businesswoman Leona Helmsley may have had a bad reputation during her life, known for poor treatment of those around her including employees, tenants, and family members, but is getting a postmortem reputation makeover from the charitable impact of the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust. The trust is becoming known in Israel for making large donations to organizations and hospitals for health care and medical research projects. The sources of the charitable trust’s funds were not stipulated by Helmsly, but left to trustee discretion.
