Massachusetts Funds Environmental Trust with Specialty License Plates

License PlateThe Massachusetts Environmental Trust was created by the Massachusetts Legislature 20 years ago and uses trust funds for environmental projects, such as protecting rivers in the state by addressing runoff contamination and pollution, and protecting the habitats of threatened or endangered species. At creation the trust was funded with $2 million and has continued funding through settlements arising out of environmental litigation, and by selling “Preserve the Trust” license plates. The three specialty license plates can be purchased through the Registry of Motor Vehicles and the sales have produced $21 million in trust funding.
