Political Groups Struggle With an Aging Donor Base
Continuing a family tradition of charitable contributions is a rising concern for organizations with political agendas as a trend is emerging of older donors not leaving contributions to their favorite groups at their death and their children not continuing in their parents’ path. A big financial hit was seen by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington after their largest contributor, Peter Lewis, died and his son declined requests to continue the financial backing that had been received by the group from his father. As top donors for many organizations that target political issues are aging, some organizations have created outreach programs to target the younger generation of their donor base.
