The rising divorce rates for older individuals combined with the rising cost of long-term care, has some saying that the problem is big enough already and that the financial criteria for qualifying for Medicaid Long-Term Care benefits is making it worse for financially strapped older couples. Additionally, critics advocating for reform argue that the financial strain and Medicaid criteria leaves divorce as the only option for some older couples.
