Keeping Up With Estate Planning

Living willIn Sunday night’s episode of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” Kris Jenner told her husband Bruce that he was no longer the “executor of my living will.”  Kris continued, “If someone needs to make a decision like taking me off life support [it should not be a former spouse].”

This illustrates the confusion many people have when it comes to estate planning.  Kris was likely referring to her Advance Health Care Directive that generally involves a living will.  Conversely, an executor is named in a will (different from a living will) and applies after death.  It is important for anyone creating an estate plan to understand these distinct differences.
