Color Coded State Map Charts Leading Causes of Death
A new color coded map put out by the Centers for Disease Control shows the most distinctive cause of death in each state. Although cancer and heart disease remains the most common killer nationwide, the map shows that there are regional differences between states over what is the leading cause of death. For example while sepsis may be a major cause of death in New Jersey, the flu is a leading killer in northern states like “Maine, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming.” Researchers hope that tools like this map will help states become more informed about these regional differences in causes of death.
