Portsmouth Cop Takes Stand In Inheritance Dispute
I have previously discussed the $2.7 million inheritance dispute between Portsmouth police Sergeant Aaron Goodwin and the heirs of late Geraldine Webber.
Yesterday, Goodwin took the stand in probate court and described in detail how his friendship grew with Ms. Webber over time. Goodwin denies any allegations that he took advantage of her, testifying about how he would visit Ms. Webber regularly and offered her assistance as she lived at home alone. He and his wife would also send her meals from time to time after she broke her wrist. “She regarded me like a second son,” he said. When Ms. Webber told Goodwin that she wanted to leave her waterfront home to him, Goodwin decided to meet with the Police Chief and disclose their relationship. Goodwin also admitted to helping Ms. Webber find a new attorney to draft a new will, but said that Ms. Webber “was the driving force” behind this decision.
