Margaret Thatcher’s Personal Papers Will Be Donated To Churchill College Archives

ThatcherThe personal papers from the years Margaret Thatcher served as UK Prime Minister are going to be made publicly-accessible at Churchill College, Cambridge.  Thatcher’s family is donating the papers as part of an arrangement to reduce the estates inheritance tax under the Arts Council England’s Acceptance In Lieu (AIL) scheme.  A larger offer from an American university was turned down by Thatcher’s family so that the former prime ministers personal papers could stay in Britain.  The Arts Council uses the AIL scheme to acquire artwork and other objects for the public benefit.
