Max Liebermann Painting That Was Looted By Nazis Put Up For Auction

Two riders on the beachAn oil painting that was recently returned to the surviving heirs of a Jewish industrialist after it was originally confiscated by the Nazis before World War II is set to go up for auction.  Max Liebermann’s Two Riders on the Beach was originally taken from David Friedmann, a brick factory owner, and given to a Nazi general.  Friedmann’s heirs were recently able to recover the oil painting after it was discovered in 2012.  The 1901 painting is estimated to be worth about $870,000.
