An Increasing Number Of Senior Citizens Are Opting For Communal Living Arrangements
During the 1960’s living in a commune was a popular thing for certain segments of youth culture. Today communal living arrangements are making a comeback with senior citizens wanting to save money on housing. According to U.S. Census Bureau data people living with other persons that are not related is five times more likely to happen than it was in the 1950’s. Saving money is not the only motivating factor for people to live communally, many senior citizens are also looking for companionship and help with chores. Another trend that is making a comeback in modern times are multi-generational homes. These changes to popular living arrangements that are being brought on by new economic realities will likely continue as baby boomers continue to retire.
