The Possible Future Of Hamtramck ‘Disneyland’ Is Uncertain After Artist’s Death

Since Dmytro Szylak’s death at the age of 92 the future of the “Hamtramck Disneyland Display” in Michigan remains uncertain.  Over the years the retired autoworker built this backyard folk art display that has attracted countless visitors that have come from as far away as Germany and Italy.  Art leaders and elected officials in Hamtramck Michigan would like to find a way to preserve the exhibit.  The fate of the art display currently hinges on a probate battle between a friend the decedent named in a will and his estranged adult daughter.  A pre-trial hearing has currently been set for September 16 to attempt to resolve the estate’s legal issues.
