There are many people with certain dog breeds that might have difficulty finding affordable homeowners insurance. Dog owners are generally liable for damage that a dog does regardless of whether the dog was provoked or not. When a dog bite happens the homeowners’ insurance policy kicks in because a dog bite is a homeowner claim and the insurance company is obligated to defend the homeowner in lawsuits. Dog owner liability insurance currently exists for pet owners that do not qualify for coverage under traditional insurance policies. Obtaining pet liability insurance is vital for people that cannot qualify for traditional insurance because of the breed of their dog.
