New Group Pushes For Increased Pay For Egg Donors

GavelA group dedicated to increasing the amount of money egg donors may be paid are suing to have industry guidelines on pay changed from the current suggestion of $10,000. The group brought suit in a federal court which has already certified the case as a class action. The group argues that the guidelines, a non binding code created by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, is the same as price fixing and deprives donors of pay they would otherwise receive. However, support of the rules argue that the suggested maximum will help keep prices affordable for lower income families and that the rules have not produced a shortage of willing donors. As of now, no court date has been set but this case could lead to a huge change in alternative reproduction community if it is successful.
