Palace Of Versailles Puts On Exhibition Commemorating Louis XIV

Louis-2The Public Institution of the Palace of Versailles is putting on a major exhibition to commemorate the death of Louis XIV that occurred 300 years ago on September 1, 1715.  The death of the King of France was a key moment in the construction of the French perception of the monarchy.  The exhibition will look back on the details of the Monarch’s death, autopsy, and funeral.  It will bring together works of art and historical documents that are of major importance from French and foreign collections.  This article discusses many of the important details about what people will expect to see at the event.  This event is based on an international research program on royal ceremonies in European Courts that was carried out over the course of three years at the Palace of Versailles Research Center.
