Son Of Fugitive Earl Seeks To Have Father Declared Dead

ArticlePictureThe son of the long time fugitive Earl of Lucan has applied to the High Court to have his father declared dead so that he might inherit the title. Lord Lucan was a member of an exclusive gambling set in the 60’s and 70’s and after encountering financial and personal problems apparently murdered his nanny and fled. His last known sighting was in 1974 in the hours after the murder with no substantiated encounter recorded since that time. It has long been assumed that Lord Lucan committed suicide but until the High Court rules on his death, the title remains vested in the 7th Earl even though another court declared him dead for probate purposes in 1999.
