Doctor Who Testified In Estate Dispute Seeks $70,000 For The Trouble

MedicalA case that I have previously discussed involving a police officer who was accused of using undue influence to get a $2 million fortune has gotten another strange twist. A doctor hired by the estate to make a pronouncement on the mental condition of the testator has filed a bill for $70,000 with the court. The doctor claims that he read all her previous medical records and visited the place she died in order to get a better sense of her capacity as part of the bill. The only problem is that he alone, among multiple MD’s, found her to be competent and apparently did not review the records of the physicians who regularly treated the women and had diagnosed her with dementia. Lawyers associated with the case expressed surprise at the amount requested but added that it must first be approved by the court. No word yet in when a ruling on the bill is expected.
