How To Deal With A Client Moving To Another Jurisdiction

MovingThere are many circumstances where a client will move to move to another state or jurisdiction and may need to make changes to their estate plan.  One factor that the moving client would need to consider are the differences in estate planning rules and regulations between the state they are living in and the state that they are planning to move to.

There are a lot of estate planning laws that are uniform throughout the country, but clients need to be aware of any differences that exist.  The client will also need to clarify his or her place of residence or where they are domiciled.  Whether the state that they are moving to is a community property state could have a huge impact on how their estate ends up being distributed.  They also need to be aware of any state estate taxes that might exist and what the threshold is.
