British Solicitor Loses License Over Outrageous Fees
A Solicitor in York, England, has lost his license after the Solicitor Regulation Authority found that the fees billed for an estate were “unconscionable.” The case that did the solicitor in was from acting as an executor to a man’s estate to which he billed £72, 000 for the services which worked out to £750 per hour, a rate that is not paid to even the top partners at many English firms. In addition, the solicitor took a £122,000 from a client’s account which he used to pay off a personal loan. In comments made after the hearing, the solicitor acknowledged the problems but blamed them on age and poor paperwork.
