Arkansas AG Seeks Major Penalties Against Funeral Home
A funeral home is supposed to be a place that takes care of all the issues regarding a corpse after death in order to allow the family and friends of the deceased to grieve. But not all funeral homes provide the same level of care as many unfortunate Arkansas families found out when their choice left bodies out to decompose and performed slipshod embalming leaving many bodies leaking at the service. As a result, the Arkansas Attorney General has filed Deceptive Trade Practice Act violations against the owners which could result in tens of thousands of dollars in damages and punitive awards. This case shows that due diligence must occur when choosing a funeral service in order to make sure that a loved one’s body is properly handled and respectfully treated. Unfortunately, the funeral industry has made the ability to comparative shop very difficult although the internet still provides much useful information especially about the experience of others when dealing with a particular service. While most do no want to worry about detailed shopping following a traumatic loss, it still pays off to conduct basic research as it will save much heartache by avoiding the worst of the worst.
