Benson Ordered To Be Deposed By Daughter In Texas Trust Battle
A San Antonio judge has ordered Saints owner Tom Benson to submit to be deposed by his daughter’s legal team as part of a trial to determine his mental competency. The case revolves around Benson’s ability to manage a family trust contains many of Benson’s non-sports business assets including his array of car dealerships throughout Texas. A Louisiana based trust contains the non-voting shares in the family’s New Orleans based sports teams and has also been embroiled in litigation concerning the exchange of shares for promissory notes. Benson’s daughter’s lawyers have been eager to depose the octogenarian billionaire as he has largely escaped public questioning with his most intensive testimony coming in a private interview with a New Orleans judge. The judge ordered the deposition take place at noon on January 21 but granted the two sides the leeway to schedule it at a convenient time and place before that then.
