One Benson Battle Ends, Is The Other Next?

Tom BensonThe feud between Tom Benson and his daughter has been well covered on this blog so it is with great relief (or is regret?) to report that one of the battles between the two has come to an end. The long simmering case over control of a trust that controls the bulk of Benson’s non sports team assets has been settled before going to trial in a San Antonio probate court. While the settlement is confidential, it appears that whoever will be appointed the new trustee will maintain that position until the octogenarian billionaire passes. The issue leading up to this settlement was the competency of Benson to oversee the trust from which he attempted to transfer a number of assets which provoked the suit by his daughter and saw his removal a trustee in favor of a former San Antonio mayor and prominent estate lawyer. However, the other case concerning his competency to run another trust continues on appeal in Louisiana and will dictate the future of the majority of the shares in Benson’s two New Orleans sports franchises.
