Texas Judge Names Tom Benson’s Daughter As Trustee Of An Estate
This Friday a Texas Judge replaced Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson with his estranged daughter Renee Benson to serve as trustee of an estate. The Benson family estate trust is currently estimated to be worth about $1 billion. The 1980 Shirley Benson Testamentary Trust was created when Tom Benson’s late first wife and Renee Benson’s mother Shirley Benson. This decision is not related to the other ongoing dispute between Tom Benson and his daughter over his mental competency to continue running the sports teams that he owns. The Saints and Pelicans sports teams are currently part of a different trust that is the center of a legal dispute in Louisiana. In that case Renee Benson is appealing a decision by a New Orleans District Judge to dismiss the mental competency lawsuit.
