The client demographic that requires estate planning services is changing quickly. In today’s society, estate planning attorneys can serve same-gender couples with adopted children, couples without children, immigration families, and other nontraditional clients. In an increasingly diverse society, it quickly is becoming imperative for estate planning attorneys to be culturally competent to effectively serve their evolving and diverse clients. This article attempts to demystify the meaning and purpose behind the concept of cultural competency and explore some ways in which attorneys can achieve it.
