Claiming Social Security And Medicare At The Same Time
Social Security and Medicare both provide a major source of income for people who are in retirement. There are different rules for claiming benefits from the two programs. If the timing works out correctly it is possible to claim both Social Security and Medicare benefits at the same time. One of the big hurdles to claiming both programs at the same time is the issue of whether the person is eligible for both programs. In many instances if a person started receiving Social Security benefits before turning 65 they will be automatically enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B when they reach the age of 65. This article also discusses some of the special situations when Medicare and Social Security eligibility rules might be different.
