Gaddafi’s Widow Seeks Son’s Assets Held At Bank In Malta
The widow of late Libyan strongman Col. Muammar Gaddafi is currently involved in a bitter legal dispute with the Bank of Valletta over the assets of her son. Mutassim Gaddafi was a senior government official and, in 2011, started the account with €700 but quickly grew it to over €60 million as the Libyan revolt grew in severity. He was killed, along with his father, in 2011 after being captured and on his body was discovered the documents which revealed the accounts. Currently elements of the Libyan government are seeking to access the funds but are being faced with a crisis of legitimacy due to the ongoing struggle over control of the nation. As of now, the dispute is set to go to court in April after the Malta Ministry of Foreign Affairs refused to intervene in the dispute.
