How Do Social Security Benefits For Children Work?

New social securityMany people recognize Social Security as being a program for retirees, but there are also some Social Security benefits for certain children. “According to the Social Security administration, there are approximately 4.4 million children who receive $2.5 billion in aid each month.” This article provides information about which kids qualify for these types of Social Security benefits. Typically, this program is for children of people with disabilities or those who are eligible for Social Security. The family should have the child’s birth certificate, and the Social Security number of both the parent and the child. There are circumstances where the Social Security office may require a death certificate or some sort of evidence of disability from a doctor. This article discusses how much the child would get which could be half of their parent’s full retirement or disability benefit.
