Trump Healthcare Plan Mix Of Republican, Democrat Goals

MedicalThe rise of Donald Trump to the top of the GOP presidential nomination process has been nothing short of a surprise to everyone be it the media to the political establishment. Recently, Trump released his proposals for changes to the health care system which is likely to further muddy the waters due to it’s adoption of a mix of Democratic and Republican proposals. First, Trump proposes the repeal of Obamacare although he is also quick to note in the policy paper that aspects of the law, such as not allowing discrimination for preexisting conditions, will remain. Trump also calls, on a traditionally Democratic issue, for a change in the law regarding imports of prescription drugs into the US and open up competition to overseas providers in order drive down cost. In addition, he wants health insurance markets in the US to extend across state lines which will allow competition between insurance companies from different states which would also, hypothetically at least, drive down cost to the public. With his healthcare plan a mishmash of policy positions it is likely to give his supports much to love, and his opponents much to hate, about one of the most nontraditional political candidates to arise in decades.
