Lonely medicareThere are about 50 million senior citizens who receive health insurance coverage from Medicare. This article discusses how means testing can lead to surcharges for Medicare Part B and Part D that some high income Americans will have to pay. Medicare Part A is pretty much free for most Medicare recipients. “Americans with high incomes are required by law to pay more for their Part B and Part D premiums, and while this rule affects only about 5% of Americans today, the number of Americans paying Medicare surcharges is expected to climb over the next decade because income levels used to calculate surcharges aren’t adjusted for inflation.” This article provides a chart to help explain how the Medicare surcharges are applied to people with higher incomes.
