Houston Flooding Gets Area Residents Reprieve From IRS
In the past 36 hours Houston, Texas has been inundated with floods that would have left Noah slack-jawed at the sight. In some areas up to 20 inches of rain have fallen, with more expected, and left many unfortunate individuals trapped in their homes watching their lives wash away. But, at least, some succor is nigh for those that waited to file their taxes until the last minute but were blocked by natures attempt to turn Houston into Atlantis. The IRS has announced that those delayed by the floods can request an abatement to avoid the penalty that is normally applied to those that owe money and file late. In addition, the Service informed residents that they can always apply for a 6 month extension although all request will still be reviewed on a case by case basis. However, additional help may be coming to residents in the event that FEMA declares the region a disaster area.
