Louisiana Supreme Court Denies Benson Family Appeal

BensonIn the last year, the members of the Benson family have continuously been engaged in litigation with each other. The lawsuits have included one over control over a Texas trust that has the bulk of the family car dealerships, the exchange of assets with a trust that has the majority non-voting shares of the New Orleans Saints, and over the mental capacity of Tom Benson to manage his own affairs. Now that the Louisiana Supreme Court has ruled against Tom Benson’s daughter Renee over unsealing records from the mental competency case, the family is one step closer to an end of their legal saga. No hearing was held before the request was refused by the Court although one Justice took the time to issue a concurring opinion expanding on the basis when a closed proceeding is appropriate.
