Red Cross Weighs In On Panama Paper Controversy

OversightThe leak of the Panama Papers, by a still unknown informant, has caused much upheaval in the world due to the revelations about the massive levels of offshore wealth being stored in the country. Many groups and individuals have been pulled into the scandal ranging from close associates of Vladimir Putin to the Prime Minister of Iceland. But does that list now include the Red Cross? It has been revealed that the organization was being listed as a beneficiary for a number of phony foundations that were set up for ostensibly charitable aims but where really vehicles to hide money. The Red Cross was never informed about the status they were assigned, a deliberate act on the part of the law firm setting up the organizations, and only learned of their ties after the leak. This is just the latest revelation to come from the data dump and will likely not be the last as the millions of pages of documents are slowly reviewed by the public.
