Ways Retirees Can Avoid Being Placed Into A Higher Tax Bracket
In this column Phil DeMuth discusses his new book titled The Overtaxed Investor: Slash Your Tax Bill & Be a Tax Alpha Dog. This book discusses the challenge that many retirees face of being placed into a higher tax bracket. There are many expensive “tax bracket creeps” that this column points out which people planning for retirement need to avoid. For example, this column discusses how early capital gains recognition is important for people with a lot of embedded capital gains in their taxable brokerage accounts. There are also certain ways people need to deal with partial Roth conversions. This article also goes into cross-generational planning and examines some of the other arrows that senior citizens have in their quiver for determining what tax bracket they end up in.
