The current tax plans passed in the House and the Senate seem to diverge significantly from the promises President Trump made while campaigning. Originally, President Trump’s goal was to create a middle-class tax cut that helped the average American. But, after pushing his idea through the blighted morass that is Congress, his once-noble plan has become a twisted reflection of its former self. While the middle class gains some benefit from the reforms, pressure from corporate lobbyists and typical governmental machinations have shifted the tax breaks toward corporations. Rep. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) commented: “Fundamentally, the bill has been mislabeled. From a truth-in-advertising standpoint, it would have been a lot simpler if we just acknowledged reality on this bill, which is it’s fundamentally a corporate tax reduction and restructuring bill, period.”
