Bernard Arnault Built a Luxury Empire on ‘Desirability.’ Who Will Inherit It?
Bernard Arnault, the founder of LVMH, has built a global luxury empire featuring iconic brands like Louis Vuitton, Tiffany, and Dom Pérignon, making him one of the world’s wealthiest individuals. With five children, he faces a challenging decision regarding the succession of his conglomerate.
Over three decades, Arnault transformed LVMH into the most prominent luxury group globally, and it is now France’s most valuable company, operating in 81 countries, boasting 75 prestigious brands, including Christian Dior and Dom Pérignon.
Bernard Arnault was initially expected to retire next year. However, recent developments indicate that he might continue in his current role. There has been continued speculation about whether he can navigate a smooth succession process for his heirs, with his children facing comparisons to the fictional Roy family from the HBO series “Succession.”
The French media has been rife with headlines drawing parallels between the Arnaults and the Roys, even prompting TikTok videos discussing why the Arnaults are considered the real-life version of the “Succession” family. However, the Arnault family dislikes such comparisons and goes to great lengths to downplay any similarities to the show.
