The Good. The Bad. The Ugly. Inside Berlusconi’s Art Collection.
Silvio Berlusconi, the Italian media mogul, and former prime minister, accumulated an extensive collection of around 25,000 paintings through late-night shopping sprees on TV art channels. He could have been more discerning, acquiring various art pieces, including landscapes, sculptures, portraits, and nudes, aiming to build the most extensive art collection in Italy. Berlusconi’s buying spree continued as his political influence waned, legal issues mounted, and old age took its toll.
After his recent passing at 86, his estate is now faced with managing his substantial art collection. Despite the speculation that the family may wish to sell the artworks, they have asserted that there is no immediate rush to distribute the collection. Estimates suggest that Berlusconi spent approximately $20 million amassing the extensive collection, which his heirs now have to navigate and decide how to handle.
