Hereford wife will honor husband’s lifelong dream by sending his remains into space

Estate planningWendy Stangle’s perspective on science fiction changed after marrying her husband Brian, a passionate “Star Trek” fan. Despite Brian’s diagnosis of diabetes at 14 and doctors’ grim predictions, the couple enjoyed a fulfilling life together. Unfortunately, Brian passed away at 64 without realizing his dream of going to space. Wendy and her daughter discovered Celestis, a company offering memorial space flights, and decided to send Brian’s ashes to space.

Celestis conducts missions to carry ashes to space, providing a unique way for loved ones to fulfill their cosmic aspirations. The inaugural mission, named “Enterprise” after the iconic starship from “Star Trek,” took place on January 8. Brian’s ashes joined those of several original “Star Trek” crew members, including the show’s creator Gene Roddenberry. Wendy finds comfort in knowing that Brian’s final resting place is in space, where she and her daughter can look up and say, “he’s over there tonight.”
