AI-generated voices of dead shooting victims are sending gun-control pleas to lawmakers

CongressThe campaign launched by March For Our Lives and Change the Ref utilizes AI-generated voices of deceased individuals, including victims of gun violence, to advocate for stricter gun control laws. The initiative, named The Shotline, sends voice messages to lawmakers urging action on gun control.

While some critics raise ethical concerns about using AI-generated voices, the campaign emphasizes transparency in its approach, ensuring that recipients know the nature of the messages. Legally, the campaign appears to comply with FCC regulations as long as proper consent is obtained from the families of the deceased.

Using AI-generated voices in such a context prompts discussions about the ethical implications of this technology. Despite potential discomfort among some individuals, the campaign’s organizers assert that the discomfort serves the purpose of highlighting the urgency of addressing gun violence.
