Initially hesitant to sell, he accepted an $80 million offer for an 80% stake, far surpassing his earnings from Van Halen. Hagar emphasized that money wasn’t his motivation; he enjoyed building something successful. After the sale, he gave away millions to family, band members, and a foundation for kids. His passion for fine spirits stems from a refined palate and personal experience—his father died of alcoholism, influencing Hagar’s careful approach to drinking.
