Article: Method for the Calculation of Sibling Age Differentially Adjusted Inheritance Distributions

Ronald Spiegel (Duke University) recently published, Method for the Calculation of Sibling Age Differentially Adjusted Inheritance Distributions, 2025. Provided below is an Abstract:

Inheritance distributions are not generally adjusted for age differences between siblings. While parents, including lawyers, which advise them, may believe they are distributing wealth fairly in a will by appropriating assets equally, this is not the case. Because of the time value of money, there can be significant differences in inheritance value, especially for large age differentials. This paper develops equations, which allow assets to be distributed fairly among siblings by including age differences in the distribution calculation.
