CLE The Heckerling Institute is sponsoring the 45th Annual Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning CLE on January 10-14 in Orlando, Florida.  Details are below:

The Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning is the nation’s leading conference for estate planning professionals including attorneys, trust officers, accountants, insurance advisors and wealth management professionals. The general session lectures and special sessions offer comprehensive coverage of the latest estate planning techniques and strategies, while special program tracks allow attendees to customize their educational experience.

  • Recent Developments: The recent developments panel on Monday afternoon, featuring three of the nation’s foremost estate planning experts, will guide you through the year’s most significant legislative and regulatory and case law developments. On Tuesday, a second panel of experts will focus on the effect of regulatory “underdevelopments” from 2010, including the planning and compliance opportunities and risks that they create.
  • Focus Series: The focus series offers comprehensive coverage of a wide range of issues involved in planning for lifetime transfers including outright transfers, transfers in trust (including GRATs and QPRTs), the use of formula clauses, sales to grantor trusts, private annuities, self-canceling installment notes, and financed net gifts.
  • Planning with Financial Assets: Our financial assets series will examine the use of investment FLPs, offer some advice on how to work effectively with other members of the estate planning team, and provide guidance on dealing with previously undisclosed offshore accounts and foreign assets.
  • Litigation and Tax Controversies: This series of programs will provide an update on FLP litigation and audit issues, examine new and evolving trends in litigation claims, and explore how to prepare and defend estate tax returns reporting closely-held interests.
  • Fundamentals: This series is of interest to both new and experienced planners who would benefit from a thorough review of three important planning areas. The programs will cover I.R.C. Chapter 14, the income taxation of trusts and estates, and drafting special needs trusts.
  • Lloyd Leva Plaine Distinguished Lecture: The first in a series of annual lectures on tax policy and implementation will feature Michael Graetz, co-author of the book Death by a Thousand Cuts, who will examine the policy and politics of the federal estate tax.
  • Networking and Practice Development: As the largest gathering of estate planning professionals in the country, the Institute offers a unique opportunity to exchange ideas, network and review the latest in technology, products and services displayed by nearly 150 vendors in an exhibit hall dedicated entirely to the estate planning industry.
  • Valuable Resource Materials and Sample Forms: Valuable materials for your practice include outlines, case studies and sample forms prepared by the nation’s leading experts.
