At-home cremation performed to hide death and collect retirement
The following macabre story is reported in AP, Grandma burned in fire pit, checks cashed, CNN.com, Oct. 15, 2008:
- Ramona Allmond probably died of natural causes in December 2007 (but, the cause of her death is still being investigated)
- Ramona’s body laid on her bedroom floor for one week.
- Ramona’s daughter (Kathleen Allmond) and grandson (Tony Ray) cremated Ramona in a firepit in the backyard.
- Kathleen and Tony then collected more than $25,000 in Ramona’s retirement checks and cashed them.
- Kathleen and Tony have now been arrested on charges of disposing of a body without a permit, elder abuse, and embezzlement.
