Steve Fossett Update — Additional details
Yesterday, I reported that a hiker near Mammoth Lakes, California located some of Steve Fossett’s belongings.
Here are additional details from Fossett ‘Probably Eaten’ In Alpine Wilderness, TheDenverChannel.com, Oct. 1, 2008 and Possible New Evidence Found in Search for Steve Fossett, KTLA.com, Oct. 1, 2008:
- Preston Marrow was hiking in Inyo National Forest and located some items which appear to belong to Steve.
- The items include a Federal Aviation Administration identity card, a pilot ID, and $1,005 in cash.
- Marrow also found a black Nautica pullover fleece (size XL) but there has been no confirmation that it belonged to Steve.
- Marrow did not understand the significance of finding Steve’s belongings until he spoke with a co-worker.
- Marrow and a friend returned to the site to search for plane debris but none was found.
- There is speculation that Steve may have been devoured by bears and/or mountain lions.
- Marrow hired an attorney, David Baumwohl, to represent him in this matter.
- Marrow and Baumwohl attempted to contact the law firm that had Steve declared dead in February but was unsuccessful.
- They then turned everything over to police.
