Constitutional Amendment to Ban Single-Sex Marriages Fails in Senate

Yesterday, June 7, 2006, a proposal to amend the United States Constitution to prohibit single-sex marriages failed a procedural vote by 49-48.  Sixty positive votes were need for the amendment to move ahead and a substantive vote would have needed 67 positive votes.
