Cannon to Blast Hunter Thompson’s Ashes
An earlier entry on this blog discussed the will of journalist Hunter S. Thompson.
According to reports, his ashes will be placed into a cannon. This cannon will be mounted inside of a sculpture of Thompson’s fist which is 53 feet tall and mounted on a 100-foot pillar. “Thompson’s ashes would explode out of a peyote button clinched by the double-thumbed fist, which is Thompson’s “gonzo” trademark.” The cannon blast is scheduled for August 2005.
Anita Thompson stated:
“It’s expensive but worth every penny. I’d like to have several explosions. He loved explosions.”
People competed for the privilege of having their cannon used to shoot his ashes. Prospects wrote 100-word essays on “Why you want Hunter Thompson shot out of your cannon.” Entries were submitted to The Aspen Daily News. Thompson’s family will read the essays and select the winner.
My question — How many people own their own cannons??
