Non-Physician Assisted Suicide

Huntington Williams assisted his friend, John Welles, who was dying of prostate cancer commit suicide.  Williams cleaned a gun for John and then explained the most effective spot to aim the gun for a self-termination.

The court in Litchfield, Connecticut granted Williams probation yesterday (April 7, 2005) and provided that if he stays out of trouble for the next year, the conviction will be removed from his record.

The daughter of the deceased is reported as saying, “I think [Williams] is a wonderful, wonderful man and he did a wonderful favor for my brother.”

Special thanks to Douglas M. Cowan, Jr. for bringing this case to my attention.
