Size of Senator John Heinz III’s Estate Disclosed

On April 1, 2005, it was disclosed that Senator John Heinz III’s estate was worth about $423 million when he died from injuries sustained in a plane crash in 1991.  You may remember that his widow, Teresa,  married unsuccessful Democrat Presidential candidate Senator John Kerry four years later.

The disclosure also explained that Senator Heinz’s estate paid about $41 million in federal estate taxes and $17 million in state estate taxes.
