The Estate of Peter Jennings

Peter Jennings, the former anchor of ABC news who died in August, left an estate valued at approximately $50 million.

Mr. Jennings executed his will on April 21, 2005, shortly after revealing his lung cancer diagnosis.

According to Jennings Leaves Heafty Legacy, Yahoo News, Oct. 4, 2005,

The will, which was filed for probate last week in New York’s Surrogate Court, listed $50 million in personal assets, among them stocks, cash, retirement funds and two race horses named Channel Gate and Cabin Fever, as well as an additional $3.5 million in property in New York, including a house in Bridgehampton, Long Island, and real estate in his native Canada.

The distribution of his estate is reported to be as follows:

  • 50% of his net marital estate to his widow (his 4th wife) and his apartment in New York City under the terms of their prenuptial agreement.
  • Most of the remainder of the estate to his two children, ages 25 and 23, in trust.
  • $1 million to the Peter Jennings Foundation which fights homelessness, drug addiction, hunger, and illiteracy.
