England May Increase Tax-Free Inheritance Threshold
According to Ian Cowie & James Kirkup, Tories plan to raise inheritance tax threshold to £2 million, Telegraph.co.uk, Sept. 2, 2008, the English Parliament may increase the amount married couples may leave to their relatives to £2 million (approximately $3.5 million). This would be a significant change in English law because it would more than triple the current tax-free amount.
Special thanks to Joel Dobris (Professor of Law, UC Davis School of Law) for bringing this development to my attention.
