IRS extends today’s deadline for taxpayers impacted by Ike

IrsSpecial thanks to Mickey Davis (Bracewell & Giuliani LLP) for the following information:

The IRS has responded to concerns about the proximity of Hurricane Ike’s arrival to the September 15 tax filing deadline.  In a news release, (IR-2008-105), the IRS has announced that corporate tax returns and third-quarter estimated tax payments, which are normally due on September 15th, will not be considered late if filed by midnight September 22, 2008 for taxpayers directly impacted by the storm.  Further extensions and tax relief are likely after the Federal Emergency Management Agency makes damages assessment.

To identify themselves as affected, taxpayers should write “Hurricane Ike” in red ink on top of their paper returns.
